History
In 1990, George and Carol Peterson purchased a house and property on the eastern edge of Haigler, Nebraska from the Scrivner family who owned the house since their father built it in the early 1920’s.
In 2000, George and Carol decided Haigler needed a hunting lodge/bed and breakfast. After extensive remodeling, The Lodge was opened for business. The outdoors are reflected throughout all the rooms in a hunting and fishing theme. The beds, dining room table and other furnishings are handcrafted by George.
Many years ago, Carol’s grandparent’s and great grandparent’s owned a lodge with cabins in the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, CO. Forest Inn was a wonderful, comfortable retreat for guests from far and near. Some would stay the entire summer. Guests hiked approximately three miles to get to Forest Inn. All supplies were packed in on mules and horses. Chickens were hung from trees outside the Inn and guarded around the clock from bears and other wild animals. It was a beautiful vacation spot until the 1950’s when the Tecker family was forced to sell their establishment to the National Parks Commission because of it’s location within the limits of the National Park.
Perhaps it’s in the lineage, but George and Carol hope to provide the same friendly atmosphere at their establishment in Haigler, Nebraska that their ancestors shared with their guests at the place fondly referred to as “The Lodge”.
